098. Welcome the pain because it helps make you better.

Today everyone falls victim to their pain. With pain comes a lesson to become a better person, strengthen relationships, mend past issues and more. It is very hard sometimes in the moment to see a clear path but if you learn the discipline to attack the problems head on then you not only become a better person but you learn a valuable lesson. Remember life is like a beach youll get a big wave every once in a while. It was your fault for being in that position at that exact time to get knocked over, dust your elbows off and get back after it.

097. Not only should honesty be a policy, it should be a lifestyle as well!

A lesson Nick taught Kyle a few years ago when it came to running a business is that honesty is the best policy. When Kyle spoke to Nick about a project and the issues he was running into, Nick called out the BS. Honesty has since turned into a lifestyle for not only Nick but Kyle. The ability to tell a client what is going on like a vender not having the stone in the store in time, or machinery breaking causing a delay. It is always best to communicate these things as they happen to the customer so that they are aware in real time, and you aren't putting yourself in a corner to come up with an excuse as to why you didn't let them know. Just tell them the truth and people pull their guards down.

Life as an entrepreneur is like living at the beach. Some days will be nice, some days it will be nice with some larger waves. Some days you will encounter a small storm, and some days you will encounter hurricanes. It is not a matter of what happens to you, its a matter of how you handle it. We will always be dealt bad cards, the struggle is not falling victim to the situation and allowing it to handle you, not you handling it.

095. Must Be Nice!!

Do you go around letting your bosses or senior colleagues know that it "Must be nice" to be in their position? If you do, we suggest you take a step back and look at the extra time that individual put in to get into that position. Not a lot of people see the late nights because they are with their family doing something. Those who put the time in are in those positions for a reason. Listen to Walter Issacsons books on the likes of Elon Musk and Albert Einstein. The mental anguish people go through to run a company can be very hard for an average joe.

094. What is Financial Freedom in your eyes? How do we achieve it?

Financial Freedom is something that is used very loosely in recent times. Yes, Financial Freedom is something that varies from person to person; Nicks Financial Freedom is completely different from Kyles because their purpose and definition is completely different. Your moral compass has a lot to do with the concept as well. You can't be free from something that you are still trying to chase. Once you determined your purpose and goals you can really dig into what financial freedom is for you.

093. Do the right thing, even if it is harder.

Many people in the current moment try to find the easy way out of things, whether that is cleaning up after oneself after dinner or simply cleaning up the work place at the end of the day to make sure the start of the new day is crisp and ready. Nick and Kyle talk about applications at Dawson recently such as replacing tarp Velcro versus using duck tap to put that tarp in. Taking the time to "cover your own a**" is crucial to discipline in the workspace and at home. When you do something don't skip a step, see it through from start to finish.

092. You first have to dig down before you can build up.

Like a building you have to create a strong foundation to support it. Nick and Kyle really believe in a moral compass heavily when it comes to not only your personal life but in business. There are a lot of people in business just for the money, but the strongest companies that weather economic storms and even more are the ones that are focused on the people. The only way to find your moral compass is to dig deep within to understand how you want to be as a person. Once you figure out yourself you can apply these morals to your business.
